With technology and social media being one of the most powerful platforms today, this has given rise to a new kind of celebrity. If you want to be famous, you just have to be talked about on social media. That's how you stay relevant. This can be done by going viral with drama or doing something outrageous. Being a celebrity is a lot easier today, but it's harder to find people who deserve the celebrity label because they have the talent.

Twitter is known for celebrity drama. Millions of people follow celebrities on twitter so they can peer into their lives and see what they're doing. A lot of times a celebrity will be angry with someone else and instead of privately texting or calling the person, they just post it all on twitter. Someone who is known for doing this is the Harlem rapper Azealia Banks. She was known for starting a lot of drama on twitter with other celebrities including Zayn Malik, Iggy Azalea, Sarah Palin, Sia, and many many more. Azealia Banks is more known for her twitter drama than being a rapper. Social media made this woman the celebrity she is because of the recognition she received from drawing attention to herself. This is a form of Custodians rip-off because she got a big chunk of fame from the drama she created just by being mean. She didn't get the recognition from being a talented rapper, she got it from the obscure things she said about other people on a public platform for the world to see.

Another way how social media is making celebrities is when someone does something outrageous, they go viral and get celebrity status. These people can also use the custodians rip-off to gain that status. An example is Danielle Bregoli. Danielle is a 14 year old girl who was on the Dr. Phil show on an episode about unruly teens. On the show, she said the phrase “Cash me outside how bow dat!?” which took social media by storm. This became so popular, that Danielle gained celebrity status. She now has a clothing line, is featured in a music video, and released her first rap song with her own music video. This girl took social media by storm all because of a phrase she said and now she’s considered a celebrity due to her brand, music, and recognition. She took her 15 minutes and found a way to gain celebrity status. She kept her brand and her famous catch phrase relevant.

Celebrities use the custodians rip-off for engagement of selfish reasons. "Rather than trying to engage and understand others, the performer who falls into this trap, or takes this stance, is more interested in how she or he might benefit from engaging with the other". The celebrities do what they can to keep the attention on them and to stay in the spotlight. Social media has made it easier for people to stay relevant. Amber Rose, the Kardashians/Jenners, and Justin Bieber occasionally post a naked photo of themselves to stay relevant in the celebrity media. They do this to draw attention to themselves and promote what ever they are sponsoring.

Celebrities do take advantage of the custodians rip-off method but it isnt always a bad thing. It can be a great way to advertize. Advertizing is almost entirely Custodians Rip-Off because they want to sell a good or service and they want to convince you that it is what you need. However, some celebrities use this and social media to keep the spotlight on them for selfish reasons.
