Interpersonal communication in our
relationships with people in our lives is one of the most vital types of
communication. There are stages and frames to this type of communication, but
it is generally formed by our culture and the type of lifestyle we will on a
daily basis. During class we had a discussion on Interpersonal relationships
and got to watch a video where two families swap wives and kids and have to experience
living a different lifestyle. The Holland family was complete opposite of the
Brown family. The Holland’s weren’t into health, they generally lived off of
fried foods and didn’t think much about the health aspects of what they were
eating. They also did not involve themselves in any type of physical fitness. They
involved themselves in cars, and watching TV. Their little boy, “King Curtis”, didn’t
have any rules or limits applied to him, and basically ran the household and
got what he wanted whenever he wanted it. The Brown family on the other hand
was polar opposite. They ran four boot camps a day, and were very involved in
physical fitness. They maintained a high appearance of themselves everyday,
because they took pride in how they looked. Their diet consisted of multiple
supplements and 50- 99% raw vegetables or fruits at every meal. This example of
these two families is a prime example of interpersonal relationships in
culture. Both of these families are completely different, but its all based on
the context of the culture they’ve raised their families around. Relationships
in culture are so varied because it plays such a significant role in our life. This
is what we would call front stage. This is basically the person we have become
due to our culture, our friends and family that we surround ourselves by, and the
experiences we have gone through. Culture has such a significant impact on who
we are and the type of relationships we grow to have and be involved in.
