Blog post #2

What I found really interesting was the part in Barthes Mythologies where he was talking about the "World of Wrestling" and how whether the crowd thinks the match was rigged or not they don't mind if it is they just care about what they see. It says in the text, "The public is completely uninterested in knowing whether the contest is rigged or not, and rightly so; it abandons itself to the primary virtue of the spectacle, which is to abolish all motives and all consequences: what matters is not what it thinks but what it sees." This is interesting because growing up I was always told think before I act and you have to always assess your situation look and see if there is a problem before you act. The question is why doesn't the crowd think about the match and ask questions to themselves or others like is it fake, what is really going, what kind of things are being put together to make this happen? We should ask these questions in our own lives to ourselves and others just to make sure that we are seeing the big picture and not just the small individual things but seeing all of the things that come together to make that big picture. These questions are good because it makes us think and make sure we see all of the things we need in order to move forward in life and complete our goals without big mistakes and problems. The crowd is more worried about seeing and being in the present then looking at the big picture and assessing all of the things that are put into making this match happen, making the event take place. We need to make sure in our lives that we look at the big picture and assess all the little things that go into making goals and taking steps in life so we can avoid the barriers and conflicts that arise and or be ready when those arise.
