Blog #2 Braydon Crofts

From Lorde’s article The Master’s Tools Will Never Dismantle The Master’s House page 130 she says in there, "Guilt is not a response to anger; it is a response to one's own actions or lack of action. If it leads to change then it can be useful, since it is no longer guilt but the beginning of knowledge." I liked this quote because to me this is saying guilt is useful when there can be a change made that can bring knowledge. Lorde is saying that people shouldn’t feel guilty for standing up and speaking their minds when it comes to racism. If a person feels guilty that they didn’t do anything about it the first time and then feel guilty because of that and then make a change so the next time there is a problem with racism they can stand up and express their feelings.

I can see this in a lot of things today. People do something or don’t do something and they feel guilty from their actions. If they take that situation or experience and use it as a tool to learn from and apply to to their lives for the future, they will be able to become better people because they learned from their mistake or error.
