"disrupts the automatic entitlement to hegemonic speech is active listening"

While in college were forced to interact and adapt to strangers and mass amount of people. With this comes exposure to all different types of personalities and styles of communication. I plan to focus on just one of those styles, and thats Active listening. Im sure all of us can relate to having a friend/coworker/family member that communicates In a way of dominating the conversation with you along for the ride. Its tough to share and actually have your perspectives listened to when communicating with people like this. Solution, with patience and humbleness any hegemonic speaker can convert to an active listener. Now with this comes a willingness to be open to other points of view and may even re think some of their own. For me, active listening entails an individual to put there beliefs, ideas, and ego aside and possibly converted. With active listening does not come one individual having more power over the other, rather just a willingness to hear another individuals perspective.

I choose this quote in particular because I think all of us have been guilty to some degree having some sense of entitlement in a conversation, just chomping at the bit to get your rebuttal out. Active listening is something everybody should improve upon and be aware of. Cause no matter of social status, race or gender we all deserve a voice to be listened to. With this an individual can improve upon themselves with having there perceptions relooked at from a different angle by someones response.
