As we come to the end of the year, I believe that I have learned a ton in the short time we've all spent together about human rights and advocacy. The reason being is that I have never really spent the time looking into women rights, white privilege or racism like I have in the past few months in my upper and lower division classes.
When we delve into politics, human rights always seem to be in the core of what er are talking about going back hundreds of years. We have slavery, women not being able to vote, and of course what a women can do with her body. It really sickens me that some white middle aged man can tell a women how and what she does with her body. This is one reason I really want to get into politics after college. If we look at the trump presidency we can already see hate crimes and women rights are being violated more than ever. Our president literally on camera said some of the most disgusting things I have ever heard a male say and he is the president of our 50 great states?
But seriously, what does that say about the millions of people who voted for him? I can't even fathom how women could vote for a man that is so sexist and so against women it hurts my head. I believe that a change needs to come to politics and how we as people view each other. We need to realize that we need to notice our humanity. If we keep noticing people by the color of their skin, their sex, or their race we will never be able to see the human that lies beneath all of that skin. There are so many different people in this world that are characterized for being a terrorist just because of their faith. that is what needs to end. People of our American culture need to step up and say enough is enough. Im done with whats going on today, but am focused on how we can fix tomorrow.
