“We carry
the weight of our past experiences like heavy bags, loading us down and causing
us to distrust and mishear one another” (Warren, 197). With that being said, building alliances is
very difficult because we have all these roadblocks that keeps us from being an
ally. When we try and communicate with others it seems as if we are speaking to
each other in a different language. We may not always agree with what they
believe, but our goal is to want to learn about others beliefs, instead of
being too quick to judge. We should ask ourselves this question before we
exchange words with someone, “How can this better ourselves tomorrow?”
The Oakland
Raiders Quarterback said it the best, “No
matter how you feel or how you believe, what should have happened or what you
wished happened or you’re happy that it happened, however you are, wherever
you’re at … we still as a country have to come together. It’s like a team.
There’s going to be a coach sometimes that you like, sometimes a coach you
don’t like. Sometimes there’s going to be someone that you wish you had before.
All I know is that if you want to be successful and you want to dominate,
you’ve got to come together.”
As the Presidential election just passed, it has made an impact on
everyone. Some happy, but others worried. With that being said, no matter how
the election would have ended, it wouldn’t have made everyone happy. But if we
put everything aside and come together, everyone can help make this world a
better place. It is easier said than done, but if we can meet new people and
learn from them maybe we can find happiness and agreement between others and
their beliefs.
This is a
very important situation in today because it has impacted a lot of people’s
lives, whether it being good or bad and if we don’t solve these problems, the
anger in people of different political parties will not stop. People have been
hurt physically and also mentally from this election and if we come together
and set aside others thoughts, we can learn about others beliefs and come to a
common ground. The world will never be fixed with anger and fighting, while
some are trying to help resolve the problems, others are making it worse, such
as the college campus riots that were going on. With the actions those people
chose to take, it definitely didn’t make anything better. Yes, were not all
happy but if we open up and talk to people without the opinions, we can learn
something.
This
relates to class because in the section of “Advocacy Through Alliance Building”
it talks about how we have a tough time building alliances with others. From
our past experiences, it is tough to set aside what we think and open up to
what others think. If we can make a step forward in building allies, we can
structure a better future for all.
