Corporate Culture

“For formal organizations, culture can foster an environment where ethical practice regarding race and difference is the norm or, conversely, promote an environment in which unethical practices signaling racial bias are accepted behaviors” (Parker, p. 172) CASE STUDY 9 Keeping it Real

Looking at the design of a corporate culture, there is multiple different types of cultures that help foster discourses about race and difference, they each achieve diversity, which is a key importance for an organization image and philosophy. Corporations that don’t push for diversity can fall into two different groups, the first one is an area that sets low targets for achievements because they don’t have a verity of views being portrayed.  The second type is a corporation that does create diversity but can’t provide an adequate representation of the values and cultural views that are needed to keep all employees feeling unified.

Understanding corporate culture, it focuses on preventing racial discrimination, which from the reading related to the coca cola company, when they had multiple African American employees being treated unfairly, do to discrimination within the work place. A corporation needs to keep an equal opportunity for all employees, and this goes back to the values of the company needing to have values that are excepted in multiple cultures, and allow for growth to take place within the company.

An article from Harvard Business Review describes Six Components of a Great Corporate Culture the six different components are; vision, values, practices, people, narrative, and place. The article already relates to what our in-class reading describe which was looking at the values and practices in the corporate field. The interesting part that seemed to be different from in-class reading and the article is the view point of how the values are created come from two different points. From the website, it describes the values as the company creating them, and from the in-class reading the values are formed from the employees which helps bring everyone together. Having two different looks on what should be done, it’s hard to say which way is the best, because a company has set core values, and sometimes those core values are not adequate for some cultures.
